About HTHI Roots & Shoots

Picture
We are a group of students determined to protect the environment, conserve our Earth's resources and raise awareness about environmental issues.  We came together in freshman year at High Tech High International to form this club as a part of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots.  Our most recent actions have been a recycling drive at our school and a "green week."  This Green Week consisted of multiple awareness building activities, including a flashmob with our club's members wearing tshirts with facts about water or electricity and a short jeopardy game with questions about conserving resources and the environment.  But our biggest event that we've now held for the past two years, and took place on the Friday of our Green Week this year, is the "Off the Grid" event.  "Off the Grid" at HTHI was a schoolwide effort to show how much we care about our environment and resources by limiting our use/waste of electricity, paper and other resources that day.  We are planning on holding multiple "Off the Grid" events throughout the year as opposed to just one per year, so that the effect of it is more real and thus, more effective.
